Google Chrome is a marvel of modern web browser technology. You can configure it to anticipate your search requests, correct your spelling, record your search history, remember passwords and much more. Google Chrome also keeps track of your downloaded files, and it can display a list of your recent downloads. This can be a lifesaver when you need to retrieve that recently downloaded PDF, PowerPoint presentation or any other file and you just can't find it. With a few simple commands, you can display a list of your recent Google Chrome downloads.

Display Your Chrome Downloads

The three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner of your Chrome browser ‒ the so-called 'hamburger menu' ‒ open a list of commands and options within Chrome. Click on it to open a list of the customization options and then click on 'Downloads' to display a list of your recent download activity. Use the Search box at the top of the page to search through the listed files and quickly find what you're after.

Alternatively, you can use the 'My Downloads' keyboard command. Press Ctrl + J (hold down the Ctrl key and the J key at the same time) to accomplish the same result and display the download list.

Lastly, your downloads are stored in a folder on your computer that is typically named Downloads. Use your computer's file directory to examine the files in this folder as another way of viewing recent download activity.

Tip

  • The download list is device-specific. If you use more than one computer or have Chrome on other devices such as your phone, display the download list on each device to see all your files.

Other Download Options

You can use the Settings option on the hamburger menu list (the Settings command is distinct from the Download command) to change the default location on your computer where downloaded files are stored. For example, Chrome ordinarily saves files in a default folder named 'Downloads,' but you can change the default to 'Pictures,' 'Documents' or any other folder of your choosing.

Can't Load Google Chrome

You can also use Settings to tell Chrome to ask you each time you download a file where you want the file to be saved.

Other Chrome Settings

Go to:

You need to close google chrome, and open file Local State, you will need Notepad++ or something similar. And find magnet key, for example link javascript is enabled here. If there is torrent (or magnet) you just make it true, if not, try to add it in same fashion.

If that dont work, try to delete them, and then chrome should allegedly ask you again what to do.Maybe you should look in registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesMagnet values. If I have figure it out, shell value (this value you will also found in protocol handler) is for external application to run in Chrome, but maybe I am very wrong!

I know it is not the smartest solution, but does something prevent you from resetting browser settings, or reinstalling Chrome (and uTorrent)?

Just had this same problem. Instead, I just right clicked on the magnet link text in my browser and edited it as HTML. So:

Turns into:

Then I finished editing and just clicked the link normally.

I tried all the registry suggestions only to find that I did not have all the mentioned keys.

In the end, what worked for me was to go to Options -> Preferences within Utorrent.

In the general section there is a button labeled 'Associate with torrent files'. I clicked that button and did not even have to restart chrome before it started working.

If you have multiple profiles activated in chrome,
You will have to edit C:UsersAppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataPreferences file to get it work.
Where can be Default, Profile 1, Profile 2.... etc. based on profile.

If not,
Edit C:UsersAppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataLocal State as suggested in other answers.

Edit required:

  1. Open Preferences file or Local State file with notepad/notepad++ and find magnet keyword.

  2. Either update 'magnet' value to false or remove 'magnet' definition from 'excluded_schemes' section completely.
i.e. change 'magnet': true, to 'magnet': false, or remove 'magnet': true, completely.

Open μTorrent. Go to preferences from options menu. Select general. Click the button Associate with torrent files. Your problem is over.

On a windows 10 system, simply rename local State (i.e. Local State.old) and re open Chrome, it will ask again if you want to open Utorrent (or any other app)Fabrice

Even on Windows 7, simply renaming the local State file (i.e. Local State.old) and re open Chrome, it will ask again if you want to open Utorrent (or any other app). It worked for me.

Go to C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser Data and open this folder, select all items in the folder and delete them after that run again the installation chrome. After that when you choice to click 'Get this torrent' ask from you if you want to open with utorrent.
